Summary

Rugby: A great season for recruiting, the club went undefeated in the Spring friendlies. The A-side dominated most opponents at the beginning of the Fall season also, but lost two important matches during this regular season play setting up Midwest Rugby Division II qualifier against Clinton RFC. Although the match was hotly contested throughout, the Harlequins scored 11 points in the final minutes to secure a 35-22 victory and advance to the Midwest Rugby final four.

Club Activities: Two changes were also made to the club bylaws:

  1. The minimum amount of money that can be spent without executive approval was increased from $50 to $100.
  2. Captain elections were moved to summer (from winter) so that the captains would be consistent from the Fall season through the Spring playoffs

The club also re-launched their web site this year.

Player exchange: This year we were fortunate to host a talented full back from France, Romain Vendé. Romain played with the club in the spring season only, topping the scoring leaderboard with 69 points (10T, 1P, 8C) and scoring 11.5 points per game.

Following the final match of the Fall season, team captain Ben Smith headed for Wales for a few months to play with Penarth, a Division III club near Cardiff. Dom Singleton and Craig Mattson also spent a few months in Wales playing rugby.
